The Melbourne Jazz Co-Operative presents music on Sunday nights
Sydney-based tenor saxophonist Julian Banks’ Trio comprises long-time friends and musical allies, Christopher Hale (6 string semi acoustic bass guitar) and Rory McDougall (drums). A modern take on the traditional saxophone trio, this powerhouse group delights in interacting over the strong melodic platform of Julian’s compositions, seamlessly moving from crystalline melodic sections into heavy hitting jazz.
This newly formed quartet will feature Rob Burke (sax's and bass clarinet), Stephen Magnusson (guitar), Frank Di Sario (bass) and Aaron McCullough (drums). This project will feature new compositions from both Rob and Stephen as well as a selection of tunes from iconic musicians such as Billy Drews and Enrico Rava.
Co-led by saxophonist Rob Burke (tenor sax, bass clarinet) and piano master Tony Gould, with their rhythm team of bassist Nick Haywood (now based in Tasmania, Hobart) and drummer Tony Floyd, have played together for almost 20 years, and toured nationally and internationally. Their previous CD release Live at Bennetts Lane (2011) was their third release as a group (all on the Jazzhead label) and first live recording.
