Makarrata is an autonomous cooperative featuring saxophonist Julien Wilson and two Sydney musicians who have called New York and LA home for the past decade. Recently relocated to Melbourne, drummer/producer Felix Bloxsom and guitarist/songwriter Cameron Deyell have collaborated with artists including Sia, Lior, Sam Sparro and The Presets.
The Maddison Carter Quintet is launching itself as a contemporary jazz ensemble, seeking to blur the lines between improvisation and composition, pulse and tempo.
Made up of prominent musicians with a thirst for new Australian music, the quintet will feature works by young drummer/composer Maddison Carter.
Tenor saxophonists Remco Keijzer and Carlo Barbaro share a common perspective, phrase as one and deliver intriguing contrasts in light and shade. While they stand apart as gifted soloists, Keijzer and Barbaro flourish as a team, bringing lustre to every tune with their lyrical unison melodies and beautifully harmonised statements.
